I was yomping through the Cotswolds with my friend when I got a message from my husband showing a picture of Buckingham Palace and saying “Guess where Laura is?”  Well, I can’t see my phone terribly well when I am outside so typing is difficult so I just put “Where?” When he replied “Buckingham Palace” I wrote “Why?”

Well, it turned out that the wonderful carers at Stroud Court had decided that they would take Laura to London for the day.  They had spent a couple of weeks preparing her for the day, explaining what was going to happen and what she would see.  Then they took her by car, stopping at services during the journeys, and then on a sight-seeing tour of London before taking her to The Drury Lane Theatre in London to see Frozen, The Musical.

They sent photographs of her ecstatic smiling face as she looked round the theatre before the show.  She was a model of perfect behaviour the whole time, and, as is evident from the photographs, she really did have the most wonderful day out.

We can’t even get her to go out in the car!  So you might begin to see how much of a miracle all of this is.

Ever since Laura came into our lives on 14/02/1978 we lurched from one disastrous scenario to another until Stroud Court literally saved the lives of our whole family. 

We found out about Stroud Court Community Trust quite by accident and made an appointment to visit, taking Laura with us.  Laura is very sensitive to atmosphere so we could not let her go somewhere that she disliked. 

When we walked into Stroud Court’s impressive entrance hall, Laura immediately took her toy monkey to the staircase and played quietly whilst we talked to the staff.  We absolutely knew that this was the right place for her.

We were so grateful to be offered residential place for her and when she settled into Court View the changes in her were immediate and stunning.  She became happy and relaxed and is learning new life skills all the time.  Her personality is finally emerging and she is a very loving and caring person.

She is now living a full and happy life, what more could any parent ask for?
