Employing the very best staff—caring, committed, and enthusiastic individuals—means we can provide our autistic adult residents with the very best support. That’s why finding the right people, training them to exceptionally high standards, and offering them opportunities to learn and succeed is hugely important to us.

Working at Stroud Court

Around 90 people have chosen to make a career at Stroud Court.  More than 50 of them support our residents on a daily basis. Each house is further supported by Day Support staff to ensure there are sufficient opportunities to access a varied daily programme of on and off-site activities including visits to local attractions, hikes, social events, craft activities, and swimming.

Our administrative team includes a training coordinator, finance department, facilities staff, staffing coordinators and maintenance staff. Our management team is five strong and is responsible for the smooth running of Stroud Court.

Benefits and career progression

Supporting autistic adults can be rewarding, challenging, exhausting, and fulfilling, often in equal measure. We’re very aware that our staff are unique and special people and, with a variety of full- and part-time roles available, we work closely with all team members to help them find the work/life balance that best suits them and our autistic adult residents.

We have a clearly-defined career path for all team members that starts with an excellent induction programme and provides continuing professional development opportunities. Stroud Court operates a company pension scheme and offers sick pay benefits for staff who have passed their 6-month probationary period.

Staff training

Our residents have significant and varying needs and so it’s important—to them and to us—that staff receive extensive and ongoing training.

Every member of staff is required to complete our in-house course, An Introduction to Autism, as well as attend Positive Behaviour Support Training, Positive Behaviour Management Training and Sexual Harassment Training.

Members of staff who work directly with residents are required to complete the Care Certificate, a national initiative introduced in 2015 to ensure consistent standards across all adult social care support roles.

In addition, specific training is given in health and safety at work; safeguarding of vulnerable adults; safe handling of medicines; equality and diversity; first aid at work; emergency first aid; nutrition; food and hygiene; moving and assisting; infection control; and epilepsy awareness.

We are committed to the development of our staff and ensuring that there are opportunities to develop professionally, that’s why we launched our Leadership Academy to aid aspirational leaders on their way, as well as support our current leaders. In addition to this we provide funded course opportunities such as RQF Level 2, 3 and 4 in Health and Social Care (relevant to your experiences and role).

Driven by an ethos of “train staff well enough that they could leave, but treat them well enough that they wish to stay”.
